Dear Dr. Young:

This is in response to your e-mail information request dated December 6, 2000 pursuant to 5 U.S.C. 7114(b)(4) and Article 7, Section 2 of the FDA/NTEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The information you specifically requested was:

  1. FDA policy statement or equivalent as to what FDA use(s) the information gathered from a FDA employee's employment of a magnetic card, key or other such device to gain entry into FDA controlled space; and

  2. ALL FDA uses of information gathered from a FDA employee's employment of a magnetic card, key or other such device to gain entry into FDA controlled space.

The following answers your 2 issues listed above:

  1. No, there is no policy statement or equivalent; and

  2. The uses of information are to restrict access into FDA controlled areas on an as needed basis; and if a theft or other incident occurs in an FDA controlled space, OIA or Employee Relations may require a record of who entered the space during the time period in question.

I trust this fully responds to your e-mail information request. If you wish to discuss the matter further, please feel free to contact me at any time on (301) 827-6290.

Sincerely yours,

SIGNED
